BioGaia® Reuteri GastrusTM contains a unique combination of 2 patented Lactobacillus strains (L. reuteri DSM 17938 and L. reuteri ATCC PTA 6475). Each tablet contains 100 million live cells of each strain.
To date, 174 clinical studies using BioGaia’s human strains of L. reuteri have been performed on 14,700 individuals of all ages. Results have been published in 146 articles in scientific journals (March 2017). GastrusTMconforms to the requirement of WHO and it is a truly human probiotic that:
- Reuteri is an activated micro-organism.
- Research has proved that Reuteri is beneficial for human health.
Reuteri can produce antimicrobial substances – Reuterin that inhibit the growth of a number of common bad micro-organisms in the gastrointestinal tract, including Helicobacter bacteria. GastrusTM is clinically proven to survive and colonize the highly acidic environment of the stomach and can be used in combination with antibiotic[1]. GastrusTM is suitable for children, adults and pregnant women. It is easy to use and does not require refrigeration (keep below 25oC).

Modulate abnormal acid secretion and reduce acid-related problems1
GastrusTM is able to decrease serum G17 level and relieves hyperacidity and heartburn caused by Helicobacter bacteria.
Alleviate gastric distension and gas2,3
GastrusTM modulates bowel movement and increases level of good bacteria in the stomach, thereby improving symptoms of gastric distension and lactose intolerance.
Improve indigestion and increase nutrient absorption2,4
Decreased acid secretion caused by mucosal lining damage by Helicobacter bacteria will lead to indigestion of proteins and other nutrients. GastrusTM can inhibit Helicobacter bacteria and increase gastric emptying to reduce the residue of food in stomach.
Inhibit Helicobacter bacteria2,5
GastrusTM can produce unique antimicrobial substances – Reuterin. It can inhibit a number of bad GI bacteria and supply our gut with more good bacteria. Thereby, correcting dysbiosis and maintaining a healthy gut microbiome.
Reduce the intensity of functional abdominal pain4,6
GastrusTM can modulate the gut-brain axis which decreases hypersensitivity of the gut and pain perception caused by TRPV1 receptors. It can reduce the GI discomfort caused by food and environmental factors and reduce the intensity of functional abdominal pain.

Q&A
Q: Are multiple probiotic strains more effective than a single strain?
A: No. GastrusTM is a probiotic isolated from human breast milk. It is acid and bile resistant and can survive along the GI tract without causing any disturbance to the existing microbiome. Multi-strains probiotic products which contain exotic probiotic from non-human source may not survive well in human gut or it cause disruption of internal microbiome balance and crowd out the existing species in the gut.
Q: What are the sources of probiotics?
A: Commercial probiotics can be isolated from plant, animal or human source. Probiotics from human source show better adaptation and higher survival rate in human GI tract. Thereby, securing the efficacy of the product.
Q: Shouldn’t BioGaia probiotic products contain a larger number of bacteria in a daily dose in order to be efficient?
A: No, based on the results of clinical studies, the dose level of 100 million CFU/day has been chosen as a safe and efficient dose for Lactobacillus reuteri Protectis. The corresponding dose for Lactobacillus reuteri Prodentis and Gastrus is 200 million CFU/day. Lactobacillus reuteri has proven to possess all the necessary qualities regarding efficacy and product shelf-life, without being combined with any other probiotic species.
